IPL 2022 draft players list possibility

New IPL Franchisees of Lucknow and Ahmedabad have chance now till 25th December – 2021 to decide their draft players. All these new franchisees need to contact each player and try to negotiate with them directly. The selection should be from pool of players released by eight old franchisees last month. These new franchisees can draft either three (INR 33 Cr) or two (INR 24 Cr) or one player (INR 14 Cr). They will have same INR 90 Cr purse similar to other eight franchisees. New franchisees can draft maximum two Indian and one foreign player. Out of Indian player, it is not clear for uncapped player retention at INR 4 Cr price similar to eight franchisees have done recently.

The players approached by new franchisees can decide whether they need to accept draft or they need to be in auction pool. This makes draft process interesting. Every player wants to have good role, good price so they will not restrict themselves to draft decision. There will be tough negotiations from new franchisees to decide on players they want.

Various possibilities for Lucknow and Ahmedabad for draft retention will be as below:

Lucknow Franchisee:

Option-1 – Three players draft

KL Rahul

INR 15 Cr

Rashid Khan

INR 11 Cr

Shikhar Dhawan or Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Yujvendra Chahal

INR 7 Cr

 Option-2 – Two players draft

KL Rahul

INR 16 Cr

Shikhar Dhawan or Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Yujvendra Chahal

INR 8 Cr

 Option-3 – One player draft

KL Rahul

INR 14 Cr

Ahmedabad Franchisee:

Option-1 – Three players draft

David Warner

INR 15 Cr

Shreyas Iyer or R Ashwin or Yujvendra Chahal

INR 11 Cr

Krunal Pandya or Piyush Chawla or Shubman Gill or Ishan Kishan

INR 7 Cr

 Option-2 – Two players draft

David Warner or Shreyas Iyer

INR 16 Cr

R Ashwin or Yujvendra Chahal or Pat Cummins or Kagiso Rabada or Ishan Kishan

INR 8 Cr

 Option-3 – One player draft

David Warner or Shreyas Iyer

INR 14 Cr

There are various combinations possible. However, looking at the economical buy, player intention to be in draft or in auction, experience; above ideas are considered. This is completely a view point. Various possible players like Smith, Faf Du Plessis, Bravo, Stoinis, Starc, Pooran, Ben Stokes (subject to availability), Jofra Archer, Manish Pandey, Shami make draft process and mega auction 2022 very interesting.

Pro Kabaddi Auction 2021 unsold players list

New season of Pro Kabaddi will start from 22nd December-2021 and all teams have started preparation and training with their new squad. There are lot of changes in auction and Pardeep Narwal, Siddharth Desai received highest purse value. Surjeet Singh and Ravinder Pahal received highest price among all defenders. Rohit Gulia received highest price among all-rounders. However, there are some surprise buys and some surprise unsold players.

Below are some unsold players whose last season performance was good still they went unsold.

Farhad Rahimi Milaghardan (All Rounder, Iran) – total 78 points in PKL7

Nilesh Salunke (Raider, India) – total 71 points in PKL7

Rohit Baliyan (Raider, India) – total 54 points in PKL7

Jaideep (Defender, Left Corner, India) – total 52 points in PKL7

Mohit Chhilar (Defender, Right Corner, India) – total 37 points in PKL7

Possible Reasons for unsold

There is large pool of players available and each person has specific role to play so as a specialized person in the team, one can choose main match player and other one or two backups. Each team play with seven members squad and there are specific roles like right corner, left corner, right in, left in, right cover, left cover, centre. There are specialized players for various positions. For example, if we consider right corner position for 12 teams, total 12 right corner players are required with 12-16 backups. So, demand for player is less compared to specific position supply.

Teams also decided based on keeping team for next 2-3 years so they wanted best performers, young scouted talents, best fit players. So even if unsold players had good PKL7 season, they still go unsold due to other players had best performance in PKL7. Out of total auctioned players, 65% players are from Category C and D.

If more teams are added in the league, more players can be added in the game.

What does the captain do during the bidding or auction of his team in IPL?

Captain is the main person for any team and his role is pivotal for the team. This is true for all team related sport events in the world.

IPL (Indian Premiere League) has format of mini auction, mega auction, player transfer & trading. For mini auction or player transfer & trading, captain has role to play to strengthen his team along with coaching and analysis staff.

During mega auction, many teams are going into auction without their decided captain. In IPL 2022, old teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore are going into mega auction without deciding their captain. The reasons for going into mega auction without captain are new team formation, player’s decision of not retained in team. So, in this case, role of coaching and analysis staff will be increased.

New teams of Gujarat and Lucknow have draft process before auction for finalizing their three players each. So, they will surely decide captain during draft process and will go into mega auction with their captains.

Before bid, captain will be involved into player decisions with coaching and analysis staff. Captain is instrumental in deciding his own team during bid process. He decides for alternative players and target price at which he wants to buy particular player. Captain is the person who will implement all strategy, tactics on the field and he will take on field decisions based on his available resources. So, if captain is involved before bid or auction stage for team selection, it will be most beneficial for any team.

These captains keep their core of team intact throughout seasons. Good examples of leaders in IPL are MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma who keep their main core team with changes of 2-3 playing eleven slots.

Shreyas Iyer is in which team during IPL 2022 - Big Question

All old franchisees of Indian Premier League decided their retention and now next step is draft by two new franchisees of Indian Premier League. Both these new franchisees will need to select three draft players out of released players list. Out of these three players, two players should be from India and one player should be from foreign origin.

Shreyas Iyer decided earlier to be released from Delhi Capitals. He wants to be captain for franchisee. Two new franchisees need captain. They have various options available including KL Rahul, David Warner, Eoin Morgan, Suresh Raina.

Looking at long term scenario, Shreyas Iyer will be part of either of two new franchisees. However, it is believed that Lucknow franchisee has approached KL Rahul and Rashid Khan. So, there is higher chance for Shreyas Iyer to be picked by Ahmedabad franchisee. This depends on draft price to be offered to Shreyas Iyer. Looking at recent performance, experience as captain; Shreyas Iyer will surely be drafted for INR 14 Cr – INR 16 Cr.

If Shreyas Iyer is not drafted by any of two new franchisees, he will surely be picked at higher price (>INR 10 Cr) looking at requirement of new captains for teams like Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore. So new franchisees will not risk to lose such a player by not picking him during draft.

Best chance for Shreyas Iyer is going into new franchisee of Ahmedabad as captain.

IPL 2022 Retention – Most Valuable Retentions

All eight franchisees have finalized their retention based on long term player value, captainship, availability of playing in 2022 season, injury & fitness. Four franchisees retained their full quota of players. These franchisees are having good talents in their squad so it was tough decision for them to retain four out of big pool of good players. Three franchisees retained their three players and One franchisee retained two players.

Big stars like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant are almost same price compared to 2021. In fact, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have reduced fee compared to 2021. Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant are at same price level.

There are some surprises in the auction mainly with Royal Challengers Bangalore by retaining only three players even though they have good list of players. They did not retain Harshal Patel who was purple cap holder in 2021 and has very good T20 International debut.  Also, Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan are not retained by their respective franchisees. Kolkata Knight Riders retained V. Iyer in place of Shubman Gill who was consistent with them in opening. V. Iyer can bowl but he did not bowl in IPL 2021.

Following are most valuable retention by franchisees.

Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Sunil Narine is retained with INR 6 Cr and it is very less compared to last season (INR 12.5 Cr). He is all-rounder and can bat at opening and as finisher. He can bowl in power play and in middle overs. If he is not retained then there will be tough competition among franchisees. This is best valuable retention.

Glenn Maxwell (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Glenn Maxwell is retained with INR 11 Cr and it is less compared to last season (INR 14.25 Cr). He is all-rounder and he will have great role to play with Royal Challengers Bangalore in absence of AB de Villiers. This is best retention for RCB.

Kieron Pollard (Mumbai Indians)

Kieron Pollard is retained with INR 6 Cr. which is almost same as compared to last season (INR 5.4 Cr). He is with Mumbai Indians since long. He is playing various role for Mumbai Indians like finisher, bowler and leader when Rohit Sharma is not playing.

Mumbai Indians Dilemma – Player Retention from Spotted Talents

Moeen Ali (Chennai Super Kings)

Moeen Ali is retained with INR 8 Cr which is almost same as compared to last season (INR 7 Cr). In last season, he gave flexibility to CSK line up by going at number four for batting. He is good spinner who can bowl in power play and in middle overs.

Looking at team retention performance, Royal Challengers Bangalore has done great job by keeping total price of retained players at same level of INR 33 Cr compared to last price to these retained players. If they have retained one more player like Devdutt Padikkal or Harshal Patel or Yuzvendra Chahal, it would be best retention for them.

All other franchisees have retained their players at total higher price compared to last season.
